Leaving the light on, taking long showers or using the dishwasher without being full are daily habits that imply a direct impact on your electricity bill and on the environment.

From Nordy, we want to share with you 10 simple tips to save energy on your electricity bill:

1. Take advantage of natural light

One of the simplest ways to save energy is to use natural light as much as possible. During the day, open curtains and blinds to allow sunlight to brighten your home.

Use natural light, it will help decrease electricity consumption since we will not need to turn on artificial lights. Furthermore, in winter we reduce the need for heating, thanks to the natural heat from the sun.

2. Use bLED bulbs.

Although some people think it's a saving myth, LED bulbs consume up to 75% less energythan incandescent ones. This is a simple upgrade that will allow you to see a reduction in your electric bill.

Opting for LED bulbs will allow you to make better use of electricity, offering the same amount of light as traditional bulbs, but with greater energy efficiency. In addition, their lifetime is much longer, making them a more sustainable and economical option.

3. Unplug unused appliances

Many devices continue to consume power when they are turned off. This consumption is known as "phantom power". To avoid this, you can unplug devices that you are not using manually or use power strips with switches that allow you to turn off several devices at the same time.

4. Optimize the use of air conditioning and heating.

To reduce the impact of these systems, it is advisable to adjust the temperature to appropriate levels. For example, in winter, keep the heating at 20°C, and in summer, set the air conditioning at 24°C-26°C.

You may also consider using a ceiling fan, as they are an excellent way to complement air conditioning systems, improving air distribution. The programmable thermostats are also a good option when it comes to saving, as they allow you to set temperatures according to your daily routines.

 5. Optimize the use of your home appliances."

Another simple energy-saving tipis to use our appliances efficiently. A misuse of these can significantly increase energy consumption in the home.  Optimizing their use will allow us to reduce the waste of resources and save on our bills.

We recommend that you use the dishwasher and washing machine only when they are full, as running them with partial loads wastes unnecessary water and energy.

6. Insulate your home

Having good insulation can help reduce energy consumption in your home. If your home is not well insulated, you are likely to lose heat in the winter and coolness in the summer, which will cause our systems to work harder.

In addition, good insulation will not only help us maintain stable room temperatures, which provides thermal comfort to our home, it will also reduce the transmission of outside noise, creating a quieter environment

7. Temporizers for exterior lighting.

If you have outdoor lighting in your home, we recommend installing timer timers. This simple device allows automating on/off the lights, which helps reduce energy consumption.

Automation will help you avoid wasting electricity by being able to program when the exterior lights should be turned on or off. In addition, it is very easy to install and use; some models can even be connected to smart systems and controlled from the cell phone or by voice commands.

8. Cook efficiently

Making small changes to the way we use cooking appliances such as the oven or microwave can make a big difference in your electric bill.

You can start using lids on pots, preventing heat from escaping, which speeds up the cooking process. Or you can turn off the oven a few minutes before cooking is finished, as the residual heat will allow the food to finish cooking without expending more energy.

9. Change the air filters

The primary function of air filters is to trap dust particles and other contaminants. Not cleaning them regularly forces the system to work harder, increasing energy consumption.

In addition, replacing air filters not only helps us save more, it will also increase the efficiency of the system by not forcing it to work harder and improve the quality of the air you breathe in your home, as a dirty air filter will let particles and allergens circulate at will.

10. Reduce hot water usage

Using cold water is one way to reduce energy consumption, since heating water represents a large expenditure of energy. Opting for cold water can help us save energy.

Cold water can also help us in other aspects such as clothing care.Cold water will help us to prolong the life of the garments, while hot water tends to wear out the fibers of the fabrics more quickly.
